How it works...

In order to progress the story, the students have to complete different challenges that test different things. These challenges can be brain teasers, picture puzzles, escape room type of challenges, or writing specific things about their characters.

Brain Teasers

These can be implemented for almost any level. Students are allowed to ask for hints if they get stuck.

Picture Puzzles

These depend on vocabulary skills. They can be difficult because some pictures might require a synonym students are unfamiliar with, but they are allowed to ask for help with these as well.

Writing

For the pilot, the students had to practise the past tenses by writing their character’s past. They check each other’s work, so the teacher has the time to perform Game Master tasks.

Escape room challenges

These are a new addition to the beta version. The students themselves suggested these during interviews, so they will be implemented to see whether this can add a new layer to the experience. Escape room challenges will take the place of fill in the gap exercises. How they will be used exactly, however, is still being determined.
